Epsom Salts helps you sleep – True or False?

Is it an old fish-wives tale that Epsom Salts help you sleep better?

Surprisingly it is TRUE – there have been many scientific papers and much research undertaken on the benefits of Magnesium Sulfate Heptahydrate (MgSO4·7H2O), commonly called Epsom Salt.

Magnesium is the 3rd most important element in your body – water is the 1st! It is essential to life, necessary for good health, and a vital component within your cells. Urban Wellness Float and the use of Float Therapy helps contribute to overall health.

One example of how Floating helps - we had a 26 year old girl Float with us for the first time. She was diagnosed with insomnia at age 18, since then she has had two children and been prescribed countless drugs to help her condition. Unfortunately, pharmaceutical solutions often come with many side-effects such as depression, anxiety, reduced appetite, bowel disorders, dizziness, skin conditions and many more.
She loved her experience in the Float Room for an hour of total, dream-like relaxation, although she was drowsy, she never fell asleep.
The following day, she called into her work to say she will be late arriving and when asked why, she said “I slept in”. This was met with howls of laughter from her friend on the phone, and when she arrived at work, she repeated the reason for her lateness to her office co-workers, who also laughed and a few commenting she must have been out on the razzle the night before. What’s strange about the reactions from her fellow workers is they knew she suffered from insomnia and she has never ‘slept-in’ in her 10 year working there.
She called us the following day and explained what happened and told us the story and how emotional she felt about getting such a wonderful, deep, and thoroughly restful sleep. She had not experienced anything like this for as long as she could remember. We were grateful for her call and felt we had helped her in some way of getting some normality back into her life. Needless to say, she is a regular at Urban Wellness Float.

Magnesium helps your body maintain balance, build immune systems, and maintain a general state of good health. Many people in the UK who recognise the absence of magnesium, use magnesium sprays or magnesium supplements. Lack of magnesium in your body can sometimes be identified by stiffness in joints, calf, ankle or foot tightness or bloatedness, dryness of the skin and much more.

The most efficient way for your body to absorb magnesium is through soaking in magnesium-rich water. Because our Float Room is filled with over 700kg of Epsom Salt, Floating is the best, quickest and most relaxing, way to replenish your magnesium levels. The magnesium infusion gained from a 1-hour Float session will last for a week or more and can be further maintained by having a bath with Epsom Salt added.
